A parent usually offers a lot of assistant to their child when they are preparing for college the first time. One of the most critical considerations for the parent of a student applying to college is the financial aspect. I have found some helpful financial aid information for those parents whose child(ren)will be attending the University of Florida, and some general Financial Aid information that could benefit application to any college (see the bottom). One of the most insightful websites I consulted when doing my research was http://www.sfa.ufl.edu/. This site walks through the entire process of financial aid application at UF, and answers pertinent questions along the way. Included are a few excerpts from http://www.sfa.ufl.edu/ to get you started thinking about it.
Aid BasicsFor many students, financial aid can greatly affect their decision about whether or not to attend college, or which institution they attend. Because of its importance, the decision to apply for financial aid, and which programs to accept, should be made only with a complete understanding of the process, requirements, benefits, and responsibilities.Financial aid is any loan, part-time employment, grant, or scholarship offered for the express purpose of helping a student pay educationally related expenses. Such aid is usually provided by federal, state, institutional, or private agencies. If you qualify, you may be offered combinations of these types of aid, depending on your financial need and the funds available. Scholarships may also depend upon achievement.Financial Aid that is available at UFScholarships:Hundreds of scholarships are available for UF students. Some are need-based; others are not.
